NEUROETHICS 2025
Review of the annual meeting of the International Neuroethics Society
May 12, 2025
From April 23-25, the IHEM team hosted the 2025 Annual Meeting of the International Society for Neuroethics in the historic premises of the Bavarian Academy of Sciences and Humanities. The interdisciplinary meeting addressed pressing issues at the intersection of brain and AI, including those related to brain-computer interfaces and other related technologies, mental health and wellness, and beyond. The INS Annual Conference linked and connected parallel debates in a variety of fields, including in a range of academic disciplines such as neuroethics, AI ethics, neural law, human rights law, science and technology studies, and engineering. Interactive sessions and discussions brought together academic experts, industry professionals and policy makers to accelerate and amplify new ways of thinking and acting at the intersection of brain and AI.
Titled "Global Perspectives on NeuroAI Policy", the opening panel of international experts from UNESCO, OECD, Council of Europe and leading research institutions offered insights into the intersection of neurotechnology and governance. Following this timely and much-needed discussion, the three days of inspiring and lively panels and talks, held in the Academy's main plenary hall and historic library, were well worth the trip for a record 185 participants from around the world. In addition, numerous young scientists had the opportunity to present their research in poster sessions.
Conclusion: The first annual meeting of the INS since its foundation to be held outside North America was a complete success!
