Dr. Natalia Gómez Muñoz

Research fellow

Natalia Gómez Muñoz is a social anthropologist and research associate for the European Research Council project PARTIALJUSTICE at the Institute of History and Ethics in Medicine at the Technical University of Munich. She is developing a research project on critical and decolonial approaches to artificial intelligence in Latin America.

She holds a doctoral degree in Anthropology from the University of Bologna. Her ethnographic research, conducted within the European Research Council project The HAU of Finance, analysed Colombia's first Social Impact Bond, tracing how moral claims, quantification practices, and market logics interact in outcome-based financing. Through this work, she examined the tensions between measurable “social impact,” labor precarity, and financialization in the delivery of social policy.

Natalia has managed and designed educational and social projects in Latin America and Germany, combining research, training, and community engagement. Her work has addressed migration, memory, and social transformation, integrating participatory and arts-based methodologies. She has also carried out applied research on displacement, exile, and transnational communities, linking field-based insights with broader questions of justice, recognition, and social repair.

Across her work, she is interested in the effects of tools that promise efficient and effective solutions to social and environmental problems, focusing on what they fail to account for, the forms of exploitation and uncertainty they produce, and the ways people navigate, resist, or repurpose them in pursuit of more just futures.
