Dr. Marthe Smedinga
Research fellow
Dr. Marthe Smedinga is a postdoctoral researcher at the Institute for the History and Ethics in Medicine (IGEM) at the Technical University of Munich (TUM).
The topics of her work include ethical issues in obesity prevention in childhood, large-scale data-sharing for research, biomarker testing for disease, Alzheimer risk testing, genomics research and deciding on what research is in the public interest.
Much of her work revolves around integrating the results of empirical research in recommendations for research practice. She is trained in conducting qualitative research with clinicians, research experts, patients and members of the lay public through one-on-one and focus group interviews
Dr. Smedinga holds a Bachelor's degree in Biology from the University of Groningen, a Master's degree in Neuroscience from the University of Amsterdam, a Master's degree in Philosophy from the Free University in Amsterdam and a PhD from the Radboud University in Nijmegen in the Netherlands. Previously, she worked as a research fellow at the Center for Biomedical Ethics at the National University of Singapore and for the Dutch Committee on Genetic Modification.
