Medical Ethics

Medical ethics research and teaching at the Institute of History and Ethics in Medicine encompasses the entire field of biomedical ethics and public health ethics.

A particular focus is on questions of responsible development and the introduction of new biomedical technologies in the healthcare sector. Here, the Institute stands for an embedded ethics approach (EE), in which ethical aspects are part of technical development from the outset.

Research foci of the institute in the field of medical ethics

- Artificial intelligence in medicine and healthcare

- Development and introduction of robotics in medicine and care

- New concepts of solidarity and participatory approaches in medicine

- Neuroethics

- Research ethics

- Public health ethics

The Institute also has a strong interdisciplinary approach. Members work on research projects and consortia from a variety of disciplines. These include physicians, lawyers, social scientists, philosophers, health economists, psychologists, etc. The members of the Institute themselves come from a wide variety of scientific disciplines.
